 America Cannot Settle for C+ Transportation System

AAA’s Message to Congress: Let’s Wait Until the Truck Size and Weight Research is Completed
In a letter to Members of the House of Representatives, AAA urges members to oppose any efforts to increase the federal truck size and weight limit until the MAP-21 mandated federal truck size and weight study is concluded. AAA members place a high priority on highway safety and on the quality of our infrastructure and consistently ranked driving alongside large trucks as one of their top traffic concerns over the years.

 In a letter sent by AAA President and CEO Bob Darbelnet , AAA extends its congratulations  to the new House Transportation and Infrastructure Chair Bill Shuster and reaffirms the association’s commitment to work with the Committee on the important task of improving our nation’s infrastructure.

If you are driving in Pennsylvania, look for a new statewide outdoor advertising campaign sponsored by the AAA clubs in the state calling attention to the state’s crumbling roads and bridges. A 2010 study determined that the state must invest an additional $3.5 billion annually in the state’s transportation system to bring it up to a state of good repair.


 Statement by Robert Darbelnet, President & CEO of AAA, on Federal Transportation Spending

AAA is disappointed that funding for important new safety programs, such as those to reduce texting while driving and help states enact proven graduated driver’s licensing (GDL) teen driver safety laws, was eliminated in the Continuing Resolution.  These new programs and associated funding will be critical to help states implement stronger laws, more rigorous enforcement and proactive education and awareness campaigns aimed to improve driver safety.

 MA Governor Talks Transportation with AAA National Board

A robust transportation system is critical to the nation’s economic health. MA Governor Deval Patrick shared his transportation priorities for improving the state’s road and bridges with the AAA National Board. Gov. Patrick highlighted the role of public private partnerships, such as AAA Southern New England offering select DMV services.
